PORTSMOUTH, Va. (WAVY) - Portsmouth police are investigating a homicide after a woman was found dead inside a home on Broad Street in the Port Norfolk section of the city Saturday morning.
Around 5:15 a.m. Portsmouth police responded to the 500 block of Broad Street after receiving reports of an unconscious woman.
When officers arrived they discovered the woman's body inside a residence. Medics pronounced her deceased on the scene.
Police say the woman suffered trauma to her body.
According to police spokeswoman Jan Clark, several witnesses at the location were detained and are being questioned by detectives.
The woman's body was taken to the Medical Examiner's office for an autopsy so the type and extent of the trauma she suffered can be determined, according to Clark.
