PORTSMOUTH, Va. (WAVY) - Police say a Portsmouth resident is facing animal cruelty charges after nine dogs were found in unlivable conditions last week.
According to Jan Clark with the Portsmouth Police Department, police responded to Elm Avenue March 13 for a barking dogs call.
Officers found eight mixed breeds and one Golden Retriever in the home, including four Pit Bull mixed puppies. Animal Control officers also responded, and had to put on protective clothing and masks due to the smell of feces and other odors.
The dogs were taken to a shelter to recuperate.
The home was condemned and its owner is facing animal cruelty charges.
