PORTSMOUTH, Va. (WAVY) - A 24-year-old Sailor was killed in a crash on Port Centre Parkway in Portsmouth Monday morning.

Jan Clark with the Portsmouth Police Department told WAVY.com the crash occurred around 6:30 a.m. in the 400 block of Port Centre Parkway at Edwards Street. It involved a motorcycle and a 2007 Chevrolet Silverado.

When officers arrived on scene, they found the motorcyclist lying in the roadway. The victim, identified as Joshua Carter, was pronounced dead at the scene. Clark said he was a member of the U.S. Navy.

Clark said the driver of the truck sustained minor injuries. He is also a member of the U.S. Navy.

Preliminary investigation revealed the motorcycle was traveling north while the truck traveled south on Port Centre Parkway. The truck attempted to make a left turn onto Edwards street when the two collided.

No charges will be filed until the investigation is complete, Clark said.
