Coats for kids

WAVY-TV helps keep kids warm

PORTSMOUTH, Va. (WAVY) - As it gets colder, WAVY News 10 and our sister station FOX43 News are helping children stay warm with our annual Coats for Kids program. Saturday was the first day families could pick up one coat for each child.

10 On Your Side and our partners handed out coats at Ebenezer Baptist Church in Virginia Beach Saturday morning.

New and gently used coats can still be dropped off at any Langley Federal Credit Union, Albano Cleaners, Boulevard Cleaners, and Priority Automotive.

"Please if you have extra costs lying around, bring them out for the kids and keep them warm for the holiday season," says Matthew Ellmer of Priority Automotive.

"The economy's so bad that there's no jobs whatever, so I'm a grandparent and I have custody of them so me and my husband are trying to make it and you know winter's coming," says Annette Howell of Virginia Beach.

There will be two more times families can pick up coats, January 7th and February 4th.

You can find donation and distribution sites by dialing the 10 On Your Side hotline at 673-5310 and choosing option 9.
