PORTSMOUTH, Va. (WAVY) - Portsmouth police have arrested a man they say killed a woman in her home early Saturday morning.
Police charged Gene Shelton Williams, 47, of Portsmouth with first degree murder and robbery after 43-year-old Anita Kay Davis was found dead in her home in the 500 block of Broad Street in the Port Norfolk section of the Portsmouth.
Around 4 a.m. Saturday Gene Williams called police to report that he had been injured in a fight, according to police.
When officers located Williams and began investigating they found that he was with Anita Tevis and another unidentified man on Friday evening. At the end of the night the three of them went back to Tevis's house.
The investigation revealed that Williams and Davis got into an argument after Davis accused Williams of going through her personal belongings, Jan Clark with the Portsmouth Police Department said.
At some point the argument escalated into a physical altercation.
When the unidentified man awoke Saturday morning he found Tevis unconscious and called police.
According to police, Tevis's body suffered trauma and has been sent to the Medical Examiner's office for an autopsy to determine her cause of death.
