PORTSMOUTH, Va. (WAVY) - The Portsmouth SWAT team was called in to assist police with a Tuesday night robbery investigation, which resulted in the arrest of two individuals.
On April 10 at 5:16 p.m., police were called to the 1900 block of County Street for reports of a robbery involving several suspects and two victims, one of them a 20-year-old male. Police say the second victim left the scene before they arrived, but no injuries were reported.
911 callers gave dispatchers three suspect descriptions. When officers arrived, they saw two suspects running from the scene and into a home on the same block.
Police surrounded the home and ordered everyone inside out. Police spokeswoman Jan Westerbeck said the two suspects, as well as several others, compiled. However, police weren't sure if any of the other individuals were additional suspects, one of the victims or whether any of them were armed.
Westerbeck said the SWAT team was called in and searched the home, recovering one weapon.
Officers arrested Markie Lee Scarbor, 20, of the 5400 clock of Cleeve Abbey in Virginia Beach, and 20-year-old Clarence Wesley Gary, of the 700 block of Bold Street in Portsmouth. Scarbor is charged with robbery, abduction, use of a firearm in the commission of a felony and possession of a firearm by a felon. Gary is facing charges of robbery and use of a firearm in the commission of a felony.
Police say the investigation into the alleged robbery is ongoing and additional suspects are being sought.
