WILLIAMSBURG, Va. (WAVY) - A single-engine plane made a soft landing in a shopping area off Richmond Road in Williamsburg Monday.

The plane clipped part of the High Street Parking Garage and landed in a parking lot in the 1400 block of Richmond Road, according to Eric Stone with the Williamsburg Fire Department.

The 1973 Cessna plane lost power when the pilot attempted to land in a field adjacent to the parking garage.

The incident was reported at 10:58 a.m. and the first unit arrived on the scene at 11:03 a.m.

The pilot, 81-year-old Hans Kopper , of Williamsburg, and his passenger escaped the plane. Stone said no one was hurt.
