VIRGINIA BEACH, Va (WAVY.com) - It was on Granby Street that most people got to know Norfolk Police Officer Victor Decker. It's also where he met a special friend who helped capture memories of him that will last a lifetime.

"Photography brought us together," said photographer David Beloff.

With the flash of a camera, a friendship was made.

"He was very inquisitive about what I was doing and asked about my camera and told me how he has a love of photography as well, and I liked him right away," said Beloff.

"The first thing he would always do when he saw me was pull out his cell phone and show me pictures of his baby daughter," he continued.

So, when Decker asked Beloff to be his family photographer, Beloff immediately agreed to do it for free.

"You never know what can happen to him, and I thought it was important for him to have photos with his daughter," said Beloff.

The pictures are priceless.

"It was so obvious that this man cared so deeply for his family," the photographer and friend said.

Beloff's work wasn't lost on Decker's wife Dawn.

She sent him the following message on Facebook, "I am truly happy that I have them to show our little girl when she gets older, that way she can see the love that her father had for her."

Years from now, when baby Charlotte is old enough to understand, but not old enough to remember, she'll have these pictures to remind her.

"You never know what tomorrow holds. Tomorrow is not promised. It's something special, it's not just a snapshot, it's capturing that moment that will never come again," said Beloff.
