HAMPTON, Va. (WAVY) - Some call it the best-kept secret in Hampton: an award-winning BMX track nestled along the Hampton River in Gosnolds Hope Park. An even bigger secret is its award-winning riders.
"When I was 16 and 17 I went to the [worlds competition] and did pretty well there," Johnny Culbreth said.
Culbreth and Andrew Townsend are professional BMX riders.
"I've been to the Olympic Training Center to race," Townsend said.
Both men are in their early 20s and have dreams of going back to win Olympic gold.
"It's not necessarily like gymnastics where they peak at 15 or 16 a lot of the top BMX-ers are in their mid-20s," Culbreth.
Culbreth told WAVY.com training for the next Olympic games is now his full-time job.
Tune in to WAVY 10 starting Wednesday for the Olympic BMX races.
