Services set for slain Norfolk officer

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) - Services have been set for fallen Norfolk police officer Victor Decker. A viewing will be held Friday night from five to eight at Holloman-Brown Funeral Home in Virginia Beach. Officer Decker will be laid to rest on Saturday at Rock Church on Kempsville Road.

There are still no leads or suspects in connection with the case.  Decker's widow is expected to make a plea for help in the investigation Thursday afternoon.

Virginia Beach police officers searched for evidence Wednesday after a tipster called with information. Police have not said if anything was found during their search.

The caller told investigators they would find evidence behind the Target store on First Colonial Road, in between the store and I-264. Police searched the area for three hours.

WAVY.com confirmed that Officer Decker, who was found Tuesday morning on the ground beside his truck parked along Oceana Boulevard, still had his police badge hanging around his neck. Norfolk Police Chief Bruce Marquis confirmed that Officer Decker's gun was at his house not with him.

In addition, Decker was at Atlantis Gentleman's Club on Oceana Boulevard late Monday night, early Tuesday morning, just a couple hundred yards away is where police found his body.

Investigators went to the club's owners to find out if their surveillance cameras captured anything that would help solve this case. They also went across the street to Oceana base police to ask them to check their surveillance video. It's not clear at this time whether or not police found anything of importance on the video.

Norfolk Police Chief Bruce Marquis has returned after being out of town for a conference in Florida. Chief Marquis was immediately notified Tuesday morning that one of his police officers had been found dead, the victim of a homicide.

A fundraising event for Decker's family will be held at 219 American Bistro on Monday, November 1.

Twenty-five percent of gross sales will be given to Decker's family. The restaurant's owners, Dr. Sture Sigfred and Ron Zoby, will also personally match whatever money is raised and donate it to the Decker family.
