NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) - Naval Station Norfolk opened its gates for the 2nd Annual Fleet Fest Saturday.
The party, which was open to the public, included live music, a car show and a special performance by the U.S. Fleet Forces Band.
Headlining this year's event was the USS Bataan, USS Ross and the USS Nicholas. All three ships were open for public tours.
Navy officials say Saturday's event is a very important part of building a bond with the community.
"It's a great opportunity to open this base to Hampton Roads Community and for military families to enjoy the day and see what we have to offer," said Capt. Dave Culler, commanding officer of Naval Station Norfolk.
Each year the party gets even bigger. This year's event nearly doubled the size of last year's Fleet Fest.
