NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) - The USS Cole held a remembrance ceremony October 12 for the 11th anniversary of the deadly terrorist attack aboard the ship.
The names of the sailors who lost their lives on October 12, 2000 were read aloud.
There was a wreath laying and bell ringing.
Lou Gunn's son died in the attack, "This keeps my son's memory alive. Its nice to be out here with the crew of the Cole that saved the ship and the other families. Its just a joyful feeling every time we come out here. Its no more sadness."
The ceremony was held at the USS Cole Memorial on Naval Station Norfolk at 10:45 a.m. The event was by invitation only.
