NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) - Hampton Roads Transit will be celebrating The Tide's one-year anniversary Friday.
The celebration will be held in downtown Norfolk. Free rides will be available throughout the day, as well as birthday cake at the MacArthur stop.
Light rail ridership in June increased by more than 48,000 compared to May due to Harborfest and OpSail 2012.
According to a release, HRT ended the fiscal year with 1.5 million paid riders.
Virginia Beach residents will vote in November whether or not they would like to extend light rail to the Ocean Front, which is estimated to cost more than $800 million.
