NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) - School is continuing as normal after a vandalism and gas leak at a Norfolk early childhood center Monday morning.

Elizabeth Mather with Norfolk Public Schools said both the vandalism and gas leak are being investigated at Berkley-Campostella Early Childhood Center located at 1530 Cypress St. The building has been secured and it’s safe for children to go to school.

Karen Parker-Chesson with the Norfolk Police Department told WAVY.com officers received a call for a commercial burglary just before 6:30 a.m. When officers responded, they found a broken rear window and vending machines pried open.

While investigating, a gas line was 'discovered to have been compromised, possibly by the suspect(s) a they entered the location," Parker-Chesson added.
