NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) - Crispus Attucks Cultural Center received a grant to expand its award-winning Rise! program.
The center received $25,000 to help disadvantaged students excel in Virginia’s standardized tests in reading/language arts and mathematics.
“Dominion is pleased to support these programs because they are of tremendous benefit to their local communities,” Paul D. Koonce, chief executive officer of Dominion Virginia Power, who awarded the grant. “Black History Month is a particularly noteworthy time to honor and support the contributions these organizations make to the cultural and educational life of Virginia.”
The Rise! tutoring program will begin March 7 and will serve 60 students.
The program recently received an award from the White House.
