NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) - Curiosity got the best of a Norfolk woman who found a grenade and took it home with her, but called police fearing it may be active.

According to Capt . Mike Hicks with Norfolk Fire-Rescue, the city's fire department and bomb squad were called to the 7900 block of Merritt Street late Monday afternoon.

Hicks said police moved the grenade atop a trash can outside the home and the bomb squad conducted a preliminary investigation. They determined the grenade still had a pin in place and were still not sure whether it was live or a dummy.

The Navy Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) were notified of the grenade. Once on scene, crews with EOD determined the item was a practice grenade.

EOD took possession of the grenade to properly dispose of it. Hicks said no one was in danger or injured during the incident.
