NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) - Norfolk Police Chief Bruce Marquis issued a written statement Tuesday, commenting on the death of police recruit John Kohn.

Kohn died Saturday morning, nine days after he was injured during training.

Chief Marquis said the department's industrial accident investigation has revealed so far that Kohn and another recruit collided during defensive tactics training. He added that both recruits were wearing full head and hand protection at the time.

The results of the Medical Examiner's preliminary autopsy will not be released, at the request of Kohn's family.

Norfolk Police and the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) are continuing to investigate the incident.
