NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) - Norfolk police have identified a person of interest in the murder of an Old Dominion University student.
Christopher Cummings, 20, was shot and killed June 10 at his off-campus apartment on West 42nd Street. A second man was also shot and taken to the hospital.
According to court documents obtained by WAVY.com, investigators produced a photo lineup containing six individual photos to include a photo of the person of interest. Investigators showed the lineup to a witness, who identified the person as one of several individuals at the apartment on West 42nd Street a few hours before the homicide. Detectives searched the 20-year-old man's home on Carywood Lane in Newport News.
"I was kind of losing hope that the police would ever find anybody because as you know it's coming up on three months right now," said Cummings' father, James, about the new developments.
Cummings was found dead in the entryway of the home at around 5 a.m.
The second victim was lying in the driveway. He was taken to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital with life-threatening injuries, according to the court documents.
There is also a search warrant for the home Cummings rented, but it will remained sealed until an arrest is made in the case.
James Cummings says he believes there will be a day when he would see his son's killer face to face.
James answered, "Absolutely. I believe it's going to happen by the end of the year."
