NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) - A former Old Dominion University student will spend three years behind bars on several drug-related charges.
Daniel A. Reich was sentenced to 23 years, with all but three years suspended, when he appeared in court on October 28. Reich plead guilty to the four felony charges in July, which included one count each of possession with intent to distribute both marijuana and ecstasy as well as one count each of possession of a controlled substance and transporting controlled substances into Virginia.
Police were led to Reich when a package mailed to him from California caught the attention of a police dog. Inside, police found six pounds of marijuana. Undercover officers delivered it and arrested Reich.
A search of Reich's home off west 43rd Street turned up mushrooms, LSD and marijuana. They also arrested and charged a second suspect, David M. Drewry. Drewry also attended ODU.
Drewry was charged with possession of marijuana, two counts of possession of a controlled substance and possess firearm while in possession of drugs. His preliminary hearing was held July 12 and his charges were sent to a Grand Jury. Michael Hayes, the third defendant in the case, plead guilty on July 5.
