NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) - Markell Wilkins, a cornerback for Old Dominion University's football team has been arrested in connection with a June 17 rape in an ODU dorm, according to the Norfolk Commonwealth's Attorney's Office.

Amanda Howie with the Commonwealth's Attorney's Office says Wilkins' co-defendants are Jack Ly and ODU football player Reid Evans, who are both out on bond.

Police said the alleged assaults happened June 17 in a campus dormitory.

Ly and Evans both face two counts of rape, sodomy and conspiracy to commit abduction.

Howie says a preliminary hearing is scheduled Aug. 6 in Norfolk General District Court for Ly and Evans, and a determination of council hearing is scheduled July 20 for 21-year-old Wilkins.

According to Wilkins' player profile online , he played in all 13 games last season and is majoring in criminal justice. ODU head football coach Bobby Wilder released a statement July 13 saying Wilkins was suspended from the team indefinitely.
