Norfolk offers free tax preparation

NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) - The Norfolk Commissioner of the Revenue is offering free tax preparation for those who are eligible.

Commissioner of Revenue Sharon McDonald joined forces with the Volunteer Income Tax Program. Volunteers will prepare taxes free of service by appointment only at Norfolk City Hall on the following dates:

  • Feb. 7
  • Feb. 14
  • Feb. 21
  • Feb. 28
  • March 7
  • April 8

The preparations will be offered between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m.

 

"What we wanted to do this year is to make sure we were providing a reputable dealer or somebody that our taxpayers could count on and ensure that they were entrusting their personal and confidential information with somebody who was reputable and reliable," McDonald told 10 On Your Side.

Taxpayers eligible for the service cannot have an earned income in 2012 of more than $51,000 and cannot own a business or rental property.
