NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) - The Virginia Zoo's Exhibit Building in Norfolk has a new addition.
Zookeepers discovered squirrel monkey mom Marie carrying her newly born baby on her back Saturday morning, and determined that she delivered late Friday night or early Saturday morning.
Greg Bockheim, the zoo's executive director, says the squirrel monkey family is one of the zoo's most popular exhibit.
"We probably won't name the baby until we know its sex," said zookeeper Aubry Hall, who works with the squirrel monkeys.
The new monkey joins it's mother Marie, father Jeebes and two other adult female squirrel monkeys.
