NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY.com) - Demolition will begin in March on a $5.5 million dollar renovation to the MacArthur Memorial .
The plan will put the current theater and gift shop under one roof doubling the size to accommodate more exhibits.
The new building will feature large paned-glass windows, hands-on exhibits and historical artifacts.
The hope is to broaden the experience for all visitors especially the younger ones said Executive Director William Davis.
"Bring in real things pictures about real people that will then re-enforce this story that will give them basic information about what happened and why its important to know about this."
The memorial will be open during the renovation. Construction will be complete in the summer of 2010.
