NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) - A man was struck by a train while trying to cross railroad tracks on Hampton Boulevard early Saturday morning.

Police say around 4 a.m. a man, who was on foot, tried to beat a train at the railroad tracks in the 7700 block of Hampton Blvd.

The man lost both legs in the accident and was taken to Sentara Norfolk Hospital with life-threatening injuries, according to a police spokesman.
