NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) - Norfolk police arrested a man wanted for a shooting that took place Wednesday morning near Sherwood Forest Elementary.
Officers from the Norfolk Police Fugitive Unit and the Portsmouth Police Fugitive Apprehension Unit arrested 42-year-old Alexic Tariq Russel in Portsmouth Saturday, in the 3700 block of Elliot Ave., near Woodland Park.
Russell has been charged with malicious wounding, use of a firearm in commission of a felony, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and discharging a firearm within 1,000 feet of a school.
Karen Parker-Chesson with the Norfolk Police Department said the shooting happened in the 4500 block of Robin Hood Road Wednesday morning. One male victim was transported to a local hospital for treatment for a gunshot wound.
As a result of the shooting, Sherwood Forest Elementary School went on lockdown as a precaution just before 11 a.m., according to a spokesperson for Norfolk Public Schools. The lockdown was then lifted at 11:10 a.m.
