NORFOLK, Va. - It seems Norfolk residents ate up more Reese's Peanut Butter Cups per capita than any city in the nation. And as a reward, Reese's gave back to the city by buying groceries and gas for several residents.
"We wanted to come to Norfolk and say thank you so much for your loyalty," said one Reese's worker.
And the people we talked to say it couldn't have shown up at a better time.
"It's a blessing during the recession," one lucky recipient told WAVY.com. "God don't come when you want him, but he come on time!"
For two hours at a North Military Highway Farm Fresh store in Norfolk, the chocolate company made good on their promise.
"I was on empty, so I pulled in and got free gas and I'm thrilled," said one person.
Grace Telfer, a mother of five, says the idea of chocolate and peanut butter never seemed so sweet. "I almost cried when I got free gas!"
Telfer then found out someone else paid for her weekly grocery shopping trip.
"Periodically, I hear people screaming and clapping and it's like people are fainting. It's like being at a revival at church or something," said one observer.
