NORFOLK, Va. - Bright and early on Thursday morning vendors arrived in their trucks, unloaded their wares and set up beneath tents inside the new and improved Town Point Park. They were getting ready for what they expect will be huge crowds this weekend at Harborfest along the downtown Norfolk waterfront.
Festevents Director Karen Scherberger tells WAVY.com, "We're ready. Bring it on."
Scherberger says close to a hundred vendors will provide everything from food to clothing, and even cookware. And first time vendor Kennan Hawes is going to be one of those setting up shop. This year, Hawes will be selling her waterless pots and pans.
Another vendor, Carol Cook, hopes her patterned umbrellas and semi precious stone jewelry will catch the eyes of festival goers. Cook considers Harborfest's location gorgeous. Cook told us, "It's going to be a beautiful weekend."
Yet another vendor, Fran Poleshuk, will customize tropical artwork for customers right on the spot or allow those interested to choose among pieces on display.
Scherberger says all people need for the free event is sunscreen, lawn chairs or a blanket to enjoy the festivities.
Fireworks are planned each night plus musical entertainment. Country singer Lee Greenwood and the Spinners are set to appear on Saturday evening.
