NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) - Longtime 10 On Your Side viewers know Doctor Kathy Treherne as a member of the "WAVY family." For two decades, she appeared on our Midday show as a guest health expert. Dr. Treherne died Monday night of lung cancer.

Friends and colleagues say Dr. Kathy Treherne could have been Halle Berry's cousin and a professional model. But, instead, she chose medicine.

Dr. Treherne graduated from Meharry Medical School in Tennessee in 1980. She went on to specialize in dermatology while in residency at Howard University. And that's where she met Dr. Fred Quarles - whom she eventually teamed with in practice here in Hampton Roads.

"She was driven and she worked all the way to the end. She was there for her patients; she served a lot of people; she touched a lot of people," Dr. Quarles told WAVY.com.

Treherne and Quarles worked together for about 17 years before they split their practices. Dr. Kathy and her husband, who's a gynecologist, later moved to their own building off of executive drive in Hampton.

Kathy Treherne was a member of the Board of Visitors at Old Dominion University and on the Trustee Board at Grace Episcopal, among many other community activities.

She leaves behind a husband and four children - two of which have chosen careers in medicine. Her daughter is also a dermatologist.

See the video to the left of this story for a brief look back at her life and career.
