Lambert's Point Golf Course fixed

NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) - Hurricane Irene left it's mark on hole 7 at Lambert's Point Golf Course in Norfolk.

Today, a temporary repair was put in place to stop erosion. The direction of the winds from Hurricane Irene played a large part in the erosion of the golf course along the Lafayette River. Because the course was built on top of a land fill, rip-wrap was put up along the edge of the course.

The temporary fix cost $180,000. A more permanent replacement - with an estimated cost of $2.5 million -  is being proposed to city council. The permanent fix would create a more dependable barrier along the Lafayette River.

If approved by the city council, the permanent repairs would begin in September. Chris Chambers, who works for the city of Norfolk, says the rip-wrap will work for now, but he's not sure it could withstand another major hurricane.
