NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) - Nearly three months after a Navy jet crashed into a Virginia Beach apartment complex, results from the Navy's investigation will be publicized.
According to Cmdr. Phil Rosi with the Naval Air Force Atlantic, a press briefing will be held at 1 p.m. on July 2 at the NAS Oceana in the Center for Naval Aviation Technical Training Unit hangar.
On April 6 an F/A-18D jet crashed into the Mayfair Mews apartment complex shortly after take-off, when the Naval Air Station Oceana-based aircraft experienced a " catastrophic mechanical malfunction ."
According to Deputy Commander for the Strike Fighter Wing Atlantic Captain Mark Weisgerber, two pilots were forced to eject from the jet. Weisgerber said the pilot in the front seat was a student and the back seat was occupied by an experienced instructor.
