Injunction granted for funeral home

NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) - During an emergency injunction hearing, a judge granted Carlos Howard and his funeral home an additional week to continue its operations.

The ruling comes a day after the state's Board of Funeral Directors and Embalmers suspended his license. The board claims Howard violated numerous state codes when preparing the body of a murder victim.

The temporary injunction will allow Howard to complete funeral services for three bodies already under his care.

The injunction will expire Jan. 27 at 2:30 p.m.

Howard cannot accept any new bodies at this time.

Howard's attorney, Joy Malbon, said Howard was grateful the judge allowed him to finish work on the bodies for the sake of the loved ones.

"I will fight this because I've done nothing wrong outside of the scope of the law other than being kind to my families and providing services to families that can ill afford nine, 10, 20 thousand [dollars] for a funeral," Howard said.

Another hearing is scheduled for next Friday.
