NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) - Frozen water bottles were distributed around Norfolk to the homeless or vulnerable Wednesday.
According to Lori Crouch with the City of Norfolk, 15-20 staff members with the Norfolk Community Service Board gathered at the Ocean View Shopping Center and then spread across the city to distribute water.
"Teams split up with different sections to cover to make sure we are giving water to people who need it, providing education, checking on people, getting emergency help," Sarah Page Fuller with the NCSB said. "It's about hydration, education about dangers of heat and really encouraging people to make good choices today."
The workers also encouraged them to seek shelter in a cool location as the temperatures soar.
Organizers say the program has been in place for four years.
