NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) - Norfolk fire crews responded to an unoccupied single-story home Monday morning just after 6 a.m.

The fire, located in the 6200 block of Alexander Street in Norfolk, was extinguished around 6:30 a.m. Crews arrived to heavy smoke from a fire that began on the first floor and rose to the attic. A hole needed to be cut in the roof to ventilate the fire, according to Capt. Mike Hicks.

Hicks says they have not determined the cause of the fire, but it appears suspicious at this point.

There were no injuries to firefighters or civilians.

This fire is still under investigation.
