NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) - The family of a sailor gunned down in Norfolk Saturday night says the suspect was his friend. Norfolk Police arrested and charged 22-year-old Austin Greening with murder after a shooting at Pinewood Garden Apartments.

Family members tell WAVY.com the victim was 22-year-old Kristopher Klubert. His uncle describes him as a hardworking, happy go-lucky guy who was proud to be serving in the Navy.

"He is going to come home one more time unfortunately it will not be a happy reunion this time," Klubert's uncle Anthony Domenick said.

This time when Klubert comes home, it will be for his family to mourn his loss, and the life he could have lived.

"He always had a smile, a bright cheerful disposition, and he was always willing help," Domenick said. "He was totally on the up and up in his life."

Domenick says Klubert's death is even harder to comprehend for his family, because they say Greening was his close friend. Domenick says Greening had even met Klubert's family at one point.

"It's almost impossible to fathom as to how it might have happened or to why it might have happened," Domenick said.

Police have not released any details about the what lead to Klubert's shooting. Klubert's family however have details their own details they want out about the young man, the nephew, the son, the brother they loved.

"He was a great young man with a bright future, and there wasn't a person that never knew him or meet him that didn't consider him top shelf."

Domenick says Klubert was a Gunner's mate, and was stationed at Joint Expeditionary Base Little Creek-Fort Story. Klubert was supposed to ship out for military transport on Sunday.
