NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) - A derogatory Facebook page mocking Norfolk State University has surfaced on the social networking site.

The page pokes fun of the NSU rallying cry "Behold the Green and Gold." It uses the students' own pictures from their own pages, mocking their sexuality, the way they dress, and accusing a student of having "weaves."

"I think it's not mature. It's not mature at all," said NSU Freshman Meeka Pennington.

Another freshman, Leah Robinson said, "You should let it go, but people are going to be hurt regardless. They say they aren't hurt about it, but they really are because it's on the internet and what's on the internet doesn't go away."

The three students we spoke to know some of those on the nasty page, and they think they know who produced the page, and so do the victims.

"All I know is they [those who produced the page] live in the Towers [dorms on campus] and they are females...she [one of the victims] went to their room, and told them and they acted like they didn't know," said Pennington.

It appears that many of the students written about on the page may come from the Richmond area.

The University's taking it seriously. Norfolk State University Police are investigating, Facebook was alerted, and the University cyber cops are doing what they can.

The acting University President Dr. Kim Luckes issued this statement, "We are saddened and deeply troubled that someone would use a popular networking and communication tool, such as Facebook, and turn it into a vehicle to ridicule our students. This is unacceptable."
