NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) - One person was transported to a local hospital after complaining of smoke inhalation following an early morning fire in Norfolk.
Battalion Chief Julian Williamson with Norfolk Fire and Rescue said fire crews received a call for a fire in the 1400 block of West 27th Street just after 3 a.m. Smoke and flames were showing from the home when firefighters arrived and the occupants were leaving the home.
It took firefighters about 20 minutes to get the fire under control, Williamson said. The fire displaced 12 people and the children displaced ranged in age from 16 and younger.
There were no injuries, however, a male occupant was transported to a local hospital complaining of smoke inhalation. Williamson did not say if the occupant was an adult or a child.
The fire remains under investigation and appears to have sparked on the first floor in the front room of the home. Williamson told WAVY.com the cause is believed to be electrical in nature.
