NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) - One year after a Norfolk police officer was gunned down, investigators are still working to find Victor Decker's killer.
The area Decker patrolled might never get back to normal.
"It feels like it's still a loss," Jamie Correll from Scotty Quixx said.
The loss is felt throughout Hampton Roads, mainly down a stretch of Granby Street where Decker touched so many lives.
"He really cared about his job and helping people," bartender Heather Evans said. "I think that's amazing."
On October 26, 2010, Decker was shot, while off duty, outside a night club on Oceana Boulevard. His killer was never found.
"It's pretty sad we don't know anything yet," Correll added.
"We were lost, all of us on Granby Street," Evans said. "We didn't know what to do. We didn't know how to feel. It was a shock how such an amazing person was taken away from us so soon."
Thursday night, Scotty Quixx will hold an event not only in Decker's memory, but also to help the wife and young daughter he left behind.
"You shouldn't forget anyone especially someone like him," Correll added. "He put himself up everyday for everybody. The risk is so huge. You shouldn't ever forget."
The fundraiser at Scotty Quixx begins at 6 p.m. All proceeds will go to Decker's family.
