NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) - A Norfolk daycare provider charged in a 7-week-old's death was denied bond in Norfolk Circuit Court Tuesday.
Tammy Futrell, 47, was charged last week with homicide and felony child neglect in connection with Dylan Cummings' death on May 25, 2010.
Two other women, 44-year-old Dinnetta Feeny and Angel Hoskie, 27, were also charged with felony child neglect.
Hoskie was given a $40,000 surety bond if approved by Pre-Trial services for supervision. If she is released on bond, she is not to be left alone with any children, including her own.
Feeny was granted bond at the time of her arrest last week.
Cummings was in the care of Tammy Futrell at the Little Eagles Day Care on East Little Creek Road at the time of his death, according to Commonwealth's Attorney spokewoman Amanda Howie. The day care is operated by Bethel Temple Church of Deliverance . It is considered a religious-exempt facility, which are often exempt from licensure.
Dylan's mother Betsy Cummings said she never expected there would be a problem with the daycare.
"They're a church, you know. I trusted because it's a church and I figured they're good whole people."
Cummings told WAVY.com, "[Dylan] was our everything. I could go to work, have a bad day, and come back home and look at him and everything was perfect again."
On the arrests she said, "I am relieved that things are moving forward because it's really hard to grieve when I didn't have answers or closure."
