NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) - A new project in Norfolk is expected to be a shining addition to the city.
The Chrysler Museum of Art announced an expansion project Friday morning. The old bank building across the street from the museum, at the corner of Duke and Grace Streets, will be converted into a state of the art glass-making studio.
Visitors will be able to watch free glass-making demonstration, participate in classes and workshops and purchase the art. The tourist attraction is expected to open in Fall 2011. The museum hopes the new studio will draw people into the museum after their visit.
The current glass collection in the Chrysler Museum will remain there. "The Art of Glass exhibitions exceeded all expectations in terms of visitors who came to see the world-class spectacle. Now, the vision to transform Hampton Roads into a major glass center is becoming a reality with this studio that will complement the Chrysler's brilliant glass collection," said Andrew Fine, Art of Glass 2 chairman and Chrysler Museum trustee.
"We definitely think it will bring people into the museum and get them to look at the objects more closely," said the museum's Curator Of Glass Kelly Conway.
