NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) - We've all heard the tale of structures built out of straw, wood and brick, but in Norfolk tonight an event showcases structures built entirely of cans.

Thursday at the Selden Arcade on Main Street downtown, local companies will participate in the annual Canstruction ® event.

For 16 years, this charity event has put a spotlight on hunger while showcasing the Hampton Roads design community's best and brightest.

Each team created its design entirely out of canned food. The structures were built on Nov. 7, with an awards ceremony to be held the following evening at 6 p.m.

The event is open to the public. A donation of one can of food is all you need for admission.

Awards will be given out for the Best Use of Labels, Best Meal, Structural Ingenuity, Juror's Favorite and Honorable Mentions.

The finished structures will remain on display in Selden Arcade through Nov. 18 .

The event benefits the local Foodbank.
