NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) - The Moton Circle Apartments in Norfolk were demolished on Wednesday to make way for further broadening of the Broad Creek community.
The 58-year-old development on Jamaica Avenue was determined obsolete and not suitable for people to live in, according to a news release from the Norfolk Redevelopment and Housing Authority (NRHA).
In its place, the city will build affordable units for people of mixed incomes.
"It's not about buildings. It's the people. It's about giving them opportunity for self sufficiency. It's about giving them opportunity to rise up and move on," said Shepp Miller with NRHA.
The new building will have up to 130 units.
