NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) - Norfolk Animal Care and Adoption Center reached their goal Monday of adopting out more than 2,000 animals in 2012.

According to Lori Crouch with the City of Norfolk, the organization reached 2,012 adoptions, an all-time high.

Crouch says a Norfolk family adopted the organization's 2,012th animal, a 9-month old American Bulldog.

“This is our most successful year ever,” Barbara Hays, Norfolk Animal Care and Adoption Center Bureau Manager said. “There are more than 2,000 households who answered the call and opened their hearts to these wonderful animals.  Reaching this incredible number speaks volumes about the compassion of this community.”

Dogs, cats, rabbits, gerbils, chickens and a pot-belly pig were among the animals adopted in 2012.
