NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) - A witness to an attempted carjacking in Norfolk is credited with preventing the crime.
Wednesday, just after 3 p.m., a woman was outside JANAF Shopping Center off Virginia Beach Boulevard when a man forced her to get out of her vehicle. He then attempted to drive off with it, but another man who witnessed what was happening blocked the victim's vehicle, according to police spokesman Chris Amos.
The suspect got away with the victim's purse.
He was last seen leaving the parking lot in a blue, two-door Ford F-150 with gold or beige trim. Witnesses described the truck as being extremely dirty.
The suspect is described as a black male in his mid 20s, with short hair and dark eyes. He was last seen wearing a dirty white t-shirt and beige cargo shorts that were sagging. The witness described the suspect as having a "peanut-shaped" face. He also had a silver lip ring.
Amos said the incident happened in front of the TJ Maxx store at JANAF.
