NORFOLK, Va. - Norfolk police have arrested a suspect in connection with a shooting Thursday morning in the Freemason Street Garage that sent two people to the hospital.  One victim remains in critical but stable condition.

Brandon Deshawn Bethea, Sr., 24, of the 2600 block of King Court, Chesapeake, was taken into custody Thursday afternoon in the 1100 block of Oldwood Street of Chesapeake. This for a double shooting at the Freemason Street Parking Garage. Neighbor Alexis Becker admits "it seems like it might be an isolated incident."

Downtown Norfolk Civic League President Kevin Murphy told wavy.com there are safety concerns in the garage. "People drinking in public, car accidents, there are issues in the garages because of the crosssection of people coming in and out of those garages at all hours of the day. We feel surveillance cameras are needed to monitor what's going on and deter bad behavior."

Bob Batcher with the City of Norfolk told wavy.com that surveillance cameras are coming to downtown garages very soon. "There has been a contract that has been signed. That vendor is now putting together the work order to get the equipment."

Police say the 2:00 a.m. shooting resulted when a verbal altercation in the parking garage between the suspect and the two victims escalated.

Both victims were transported to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital for treatment. One received non-life threatening wounds and the second is in critical but stable condition at this time.

The names of the victims have not been released at this time.
