Funding restored to CHKD

Money will go to the hospital's neonatal care unit

NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) - The General Assembly restored $1.8 dollars in state funding for The Children's Hospital of the King's Daughters in Norfolk Thursday.

An oversight in the original budget cut the money that goes to the hospital's neonatal intensive care unit. That's where the most critically ill newborns are cared for.

Governor McDonnell proposed the budget amendment last week. Lawmakers approved it during Wednesday's session.

Below is a statement from CHKD regarding Wednesday's decision:

"CHKD is grateful to Gov. McDonnell's office and the Hampton Roads delegation - especially Del. Chris Jones and Sen. Ralph Northam - for helping draw attention to this shortfall and providing additional funding that allows us to continue our mission of providing world-class medical care to children in the region." -- CHKD President and CEO Jim Dahling
