PORTSMOUTH, Va. (WAVY) - Fire investigators have ruled a man accused of impersonating a firefighter in Portsmouth was never a threat and will not face charges.
Fire officials issued a warning on March 9, after at least one Portsmouth Highland-Biltmore resident claimed a man was identifying himself as a firefighter and was trying to make entry into their homes, while claiming to be performing home inspections.
Fire Captain Paul Hoyle told WAVY.com investigators determined the person was a trainee for a home safety inspection company. According to the company, the employee was not representing the company when he made contact with residents, but Captain Hoyle said he was also no threat to the public. As a result, no charges were filed.
