SUFFOLK, Va. - A 6-year-old boy was injured in an all-terrain vehicle accident Friday evening in the Holland section of the City.
Medics responded to the Holland Volunteer Fire Department just after 6 p.m., where the child was brought after getting hurt. Police said the accident happened in the 200 block of Bott Lane.
Nightingale flew the boy from the fire station to Children's Hospital of the King's Daughters in Norfolk where he is listed in serious but stable condition.
Police told WAVY.com an adult neighbor and his 4-year-old child were preparing to take a ride on the four wheeler. The 6-year-old also got on the ATV's seat in front of the 4-year-old. When the adult started the vehicle, the 6-year-old grabbed and engaged the throttle.
The ATV flipped, injuring the 6-year-old. Injuries appeared to be minor at first. However, medics determined the child needed additional treatment.
