NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WAVY) - A Newport News woman is accused of forging a check made payable to herself.

Amanda Lynn Salati, 31, is charged with one count of forgery/counterfeiting.

According to police, a 52-year-old Newport News woman visiting her bank Friday noticed that someone had cashed a check from her account. The victim's signature was forged on the check valued at several hundred dollars.

Police say the check was written out to Salati.

Just last month, Salati was involved in another police investigation. On Feb. 7, officers were dispatched to the Wal-Mart in the 12400 block of Jefferson Avenue in response to a child neglect call.

Lou Thurston with Newport News say police got involved after a call from paramedics who were responding to an unrelated incident. While medics were on location, they noticed a car parked in the fire lane with three children inside and no adult.

Police say when the mother returned to the car, one of the medics explained that she was not supposed to park in the fire lane. Then, after police say the woman responded used profanity, medics asked police to respond to the situation.

Salati, of the 200 block of North Pecan Court, was issued a summons for misdemeanor child neglect, as well as a parking ticket for parking in the fire lane.

The children's ages were 2, 9 and 13.
