NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WAVY) - A Newport News man who claims to be a rape crisis counselor and an ordained minister pleaded guilty to aggravated sexual battery and will have no time to serve in prison.
According to the Virginia courts website, Edwin Benjamin Rosette was sentenced 15 years to the penitentiary and had 15 years suspended, leaving him no time to serve.
Rosette pleaded guilty to aggravated sexual battery in Newport News Circuit Court on December 5. Six other charges to include rape, carnal knowledge of a minor, and forcible sodomy were nolle prosequi.
According to police, the victim told investigators she was sexually assaulted by Rosette from the time she was 11 until she was 18 years old. The victim also told investigators that the rapes occurred almost every day.
WAVY.com obtained the affidavit, which states Rosette dated the alleged victim's mother. The victim also claimed Rosette videotaped her. Police searched Rosette's home on Dutchess Lane in Newport News.
Rosette worked at Hampton Mental Health Associates located off Executive Drive.
