NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WAVY) - Canon Virginia donated approximately $69,000 worth of much needed camera equipment to the Newport News Police Department Wednesday.
According to a news release from the department, the cameras were given through the Newport News Police Foundation which supports outreach efforts, programs and technology purchases outside traditional funding resources.
"We are very proud to call the Virginia Peninsula home for more than 26 years and giving back to the community is a top priority for us," President and CEO of Canon Virginia Toru Nishizawa said. "There is nothing more rewarding than knowing our contributions and involvement with the Newport News Police Department will contribute to keeping our employees and community safe."
"The cameras will be used by our officers as they go about protecting the community and will provide a valuable resource in our crime fighting efforts," Chief James Fox said. "The Department is extremely grateful for Canon Virginia’s generous contribution.”
